A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a river in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Police was called to the River Soar in Loughborough at 18:45 BST on Tuesday to reports a man, who was in a group of swimmers, was missing.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service searched the area for the man, who was in his 20s, but could not find him.

The searches continued and a police team found his body in the river in the Stanford Lane area on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A police spokesperson said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the man's next of kin had been notified.

The force said officers were supporting the man's family and a file was being prepared for the coroner.
