Mary Creagh has been announced as the Labour Party candidate for Coventry East.

The former Wakefield MP was selected over councillor Jim O'Boyle and film director Ian Barnes.

The seat became vacant after current MP Colleen Fletcher announced she would retire at the next election.

Ms Creagh took to X to say: "It is the honour of my life to come home and serve my home city."

She previously served in Ed Miliband's shadow cabinet as shadow transport secretary and shadow development secretary.

In 2015, she ran for leader of the Labour Party but later withdrew her candidacy.
