Lido to host first sunset swim for summer solstice

Hundreds of swimmers mark the summer solstice each year at Peterborough Lido

A lido has announced for the first time it will host a sunrise and a new sunset swim on the longest day of the year.

Peterborough Lido said it would open from 04:00 until 22:30 BST on 20 June.

About 300 people were thought to have marked the solstice at the lido last year with an early morning dip.

However, the lido said it knew "not everyone likes an early start", so has made the decision to stay open until dusk too.

"This year we're also opening late to give people the option of enjoying a similar experience whilst the sun sets and the pool glows under the moonlight," a spokesperson for the lido said.
