Music venue reopens after break-in

The venue was forced to close after fittings stolen from the building, causing a flood

A music and art venue has reopened after it was forced to close following a break-in.

The Fiery Bird in Woking was flooded after copper pipes, cabling and a water tank were stolen from the building on 27 March.

The building was closed as repairs were carried out, and a number of events were cancelled.

Elaine McGinty, who runs Fiery Bird, told BBC Radio Surrey that the venue reopened after raising about £4,000 in donations.

She said she was "blown away" by the support and encouragement from local people.

"We didn’t realise it meant so much to the community," she said.

The Fiery Bird will host the Write out Loud Woking spoken word event later, which is its official relaunch show.

Ms McGinty also thanked the building's owners who "responded quickly" and carried out repair work to ensure the venue is open for upcoming events.
