New roundabout reopens to ease town's traffic

The Dunball roundabout has re-opened fully after a year of works

An upgraded roundabout which caused months of traffic delays has been reopened after a full year of works.
The £10.7m project at the Dunball roundabout in Bridgwater, Somerset, which links junction 23 of the M5 to the town, started in November 2024.
A year later, it has reopened and Somerset Council said its teams would stay on site over the next few weeks to ensure the junction works.
The council added: "[It] has been delivered on time and on budget. We're grateful to residents, businesses and road users for their patience and support."
According to the council, the new roundabout would improve the traffic flow with signals at every junction and a lane which allowed traffic to pass straight through to the motorway - technically making it a "through-about".
The upgrade also included improved pedestrian and cycling connections, which link up to the existing cycle lanes along the A38 Bristol Road.
During the works, overnight and weekend closures were in place, which caused long delays for drivers.
However, according to the council, the works were finished on time.
The scheme was mainly funded through the government's levelling up fund.
