Staff at Ferrybridge Workshops in Knottingley found themselves locked out of the premises

An engineering workshop in West Yorkshire has reached an agreement with its landlord after staff were left without wages.

Thirty-two people employed at Ferrybridge Workshops in Knottingley found themselves locked out of the premises when they arrived for work on 19 March.

Staff said the following day they had been told their outstanding wages would not be paid.

But a joint statement from Ferrybridge Workshops Ltd and site owner RWE said the companies had reached agreement on "all outstanding issues".

Ferrybridge Workshops Ltd earlier said it was unable to pay rent or wages due to monies owed by RWE.

However, RWE claimed the amount owed was "a much smaller amount than the sums owed to RWE".

The statement issued on Friday said: "Following discussions over the last few days, we are pleased to announce that RWE and Ferrybridge Workshops Ltd have reached agreement on all outstanding issues.

"As a result of this, Ferrybridge Workshops will resume operations with immediate effect.

"Both parties look forward to continuing their long-term business relationship."
