Guernsey's States is looking at building temporary housing villages for construction staff.

President of Policy and Resources (P&R) Lyndon Trott said staff at the States were working to identify a number of sites for the development.

Mr Trott said he had been told the construction industry believed the lack of accomodation for staff was a "significant challenge" for the sector.

In 2012, construction firm LAGAN used a temporary housing site opposite the airport to house its staff as it completed work to improve the airport runway.

In a statement to the States, Mr Trott said: "This village, or even villages, would provide much needed temporary contractor accommodation to help assist with the States of Guernsey capital delivery programmes.

"A shortlist of suppliers has been identified and work is ongoing to develop proposals, costs and timescales for a number of sites which the committee hopes to consider soon."

Earlier this week, leaders in the construction industry called on the States to provide certainty on the timeline for housing projects moving forward.
