A new type of driverless bus is to be tested in a city.

The bus will be used in Milton Keynes from the beginning of December, and if successful, passenger trials could begin next year.

Smart City Consultancy - one of the companies involved in the project - said the service could end up carrying people to various destinations in Milton Keynes.

The StreetCAV (connected and autonomous vehicles) technology will be on display at an exhibition in centre:mk on Friday.

A spokeswoman for the project said: "The fully accessible shuttles will be connected to a new city centre control room via a specifically designed communications network allowing vehicles to be supervised and managed remotely."

The driverless buses are just one of the ideas being highlighted at the new Smart City Experience Centre opening at centre:mk's Middleton Hall.

It is a joint venture between private and public sectors.
