The price increase will be the first in nine years

The cost of parking at Preston bus station is to increase by 20%, councillors have decided.

It will be the first price rise in nine years at the 600-space multi-storey facility.

Lancashire County Council's cabinet approved the move, which will apply for both pay-and-display tickets and pre-paid permits, to fully cover the car park's running costs.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service, external said the new £1.90 charge for a two-hour stay – up from £1.60 – would still respectively be 10p and 30p cheaper than parking in the multi-storeys at St. George's Shopping Centre and on Syke Street in Avenham.

It said parking at the bus station would also be less expensive than doing so either at the Fishergate Shopping Centre or on Hill Street.

During the 2024-25 financial year, the bus station car park was used 129,000 times, with revenues of nearly £436,000 generated.
