Trains between two major railway stations have been delayed and cancelled as a result of "multiple infrastructure issues", Great Western Railway (GWR) has said.

Some lines between London Paddington and Reading have reopened but trains from Didcot Parkway and Newbury are still terminating at Reading.

Some Oxford to London Paddington services will also be cancelled, GWR said.

Disruption was expected to last until 15:00 GMT.

Passengers are being urged to check their journey before they travel, and tickets are being accepted on other services.

GWR announced just before 08:00 that all lines between London Paddington and Reading were blocked "due to a fault with the signalling system".

The line block was later removed but the operator said Network Rail was "now suffering from multiple infrastructure issues" on that stretch of line - one of which is an ongoing signalling problem.

As well as the Newbury, Didcot Parkway and Oxford trains, some Paddington-bound trains from Cardiff may also be cancelled, GWR said.

Travellers at Reading Station can get South Western Railway (SWR) services to London Waterloo. Tickets are also being accepted from Guildford to Clapham Junction.

GWR and Network Rail both apologised for the disruption.

A Network Rail spokesperson advised passengers to "check with National Rail Enquiries or your train operator before travelling".
