The new estate could be built off Oak Road, Littlethorpe, if plans are approved

A new 155-home estate could be built on a countryside plot in Leicestershire after plans were submitted by developers.

Gladman Developments Ltd is seeking permission to build on land off Oak Road, in Littlethorpe.

It is the second time the housing firm has tried to create the estate after an initial application was refused over sustainability concerns in 2019.

The latest submission states 39 of the homes would be affordable.

Blaby District Council had refused Gladman's earlier application for an 108-home estate on the same plot of land.

The developer has resubmitted their plans, increasing the number of houses set for the site to 155.

The outline planning application shows the estate would also include public open spaces, footpaths, play areas and “landscaped” green spaces.

The applicant carried out a public consultation prior to submitting its application and received 61 responses.

Locals raised a number of issues such as the potential impact on traffic in the area, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

However, the developer said its transport assessment, carried out as part of its submission to the council, concluded that the proposed homes would “not have any adverse impact on the transport network surrounding the site”.

Residents also said there was currently a problem with commuters leaving their cars in the area and walking to the station.

However, the applicant said: “This is an existing issue and a matter outside of the applicant’s control.”

Consultation on the plans ends on 29 July, with a decision expected on 29 August.
