A former newspaper editor has been given a community sentence after pleading guilty to making indecent images of children.

Robert George, 42, of Rowan Close, Bromsgrove, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday after earlier pleading guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children.

He was given a three-year community order, including 180 hours of unpaid work and 50 days in rehabilitation.

He will remain on the sex offenders register for the next five years and was issued a five year sexual harm prevention order forbidding him from having any contact with any child under 16, excluding his own.

George was also ordered to pay £250 in court costs.

Among the 39 indecent images of children in his possession was one category A image – the most severe level identified within sentencing guidelines.

The offending happened between 2014 and 2021, before he resigned from his position as editor of the Worcester Observer.
