Members of a small Highland community pulled together to rescue a cow after it sank into a peatbog.

The animal was found trapped in mud on a hill near Glenelg, in the north west Highlands, on Tuesday morning.

The heifer was unable to free itself, and Glenelg Mountain Rescue volunteers joined local residents to haul it to safety.

Rescuers used shovels to dig away chunks of mud and soil, before using long, sturdy straps to carefully pull the animal free.

It took about an hour-and-a-half to complete the rescue.

The cow was later reunited with its calf and the rest of its herd.

Glenelg Mountain Rescue said it was a successful outcome, and the rescue had served as a handy training exercise.
