Four people have been arrested after a 16-year-old boy has potentially "life-changing injuries" after being stabbed in the face on a village playing field, police said.

Emergency services were called to reports of an assault off Ermine Street North in Papworth Everard in Cambridgeshire just before 22:00 BST on Saturday.

Police said the boy was taken to hospital and remained in a stable condition.

Two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were being questioned.

Det Insp Lindsay Harbour said: "Officers will be in the area today carrying out enquiries. I would urge anyone who has not yet spoken with us to make contact as soon as possible."
