Twins who won The Voice 'will always sing together'
- Published
After twin sisters Shanice and Andrea Nyandoro were crowned winners of The Voice Kids, they were ready for stardom.
The pair, from Wigston in Leicestershire, won the seventh series of the ITV talent show in 2023 and went on to release their own single called Destiny.
Since then, the 13-year-olds say they're aiming for even bigger things - hoping to move on to shows like Britain's Got Talent.
And while they dream of making it big in the music industry, they said one of their biggest joys remained singing for their church congregation.
The Nyandoro twins, whose parents Roy and Faith are ministers of the Christ Life Church in Leicester, grew up in a "singing family" and have regularly taken part in the choir.
More than a year after their win, the sisters said they were preparing to release a new single, produced with some influences from the church.
"It will be a bit more RnB and a bit of gospel too," Andrea said.
The pair were nicknamed "The Wonder Twins" by their mentor on the show and Black Eyed Peas frontman, will.i.am.
After securing a place in the final, they sang Coldplay's A Sky Full of Stars, earning them the title.
"At the time [after we won], things were just crazy," Andrea said. "Everyone kept telling us, 'we saw you on TV'.
"We didn't think we would win but we really wanted to go on the show."
It took some time for the twins to get used to the lights and cameras, they said, but when they did, they "loved it".
"It was overwhelming and there was a lot going on but it was amazing," Shanice said.
Speaking about life since the show, Shanice added: "Things have calmed down now but it's very heart-warming to see that we've made an impact.
"Now we want to get on bigger platforms like Britain's Got Talent."
Andrea added: "Having other people who have made an impact on us makes us want to do the same."
And for them, it is their mum and the church, which they said have had the biggest influence.
'It was surreal'
Mrs Nyandoro said she always knew the twins were talented, but believed they were not quite ready for The Voice Kids when they initially asked to apply.
She said: "I told them to apply the next year but they insisted.
"We knew they had great voices but we just never thought it would turn out the way it turned out.
"It was surreal, I think that's the best word I can use."
While the girls patiently wait for their next big break, they said they were still working towards their other dream careers.
Shanice wants to be a journalist one day, while Andrea hopes to become a lawyer.
"Our mum said there's nothing stopping us from doing two things.
"We'll always sing together," they said.
