A woman has been jailed for attacking and stealing money from an elderly man in Stourbridge.

Emma Green, 35, assaulted the victim after she asked him for directions, money and whether she could use his phone on 12 March.

Green denied the robbery charge before admitting it on 9 June at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

She was sentenced to three years and one month in prison at the same court on Friday.

Police said Green, of Green Street in Stourbridge, followed the man to Prospect Hill, where she grabbed his coat and stole a "significant" sum of cash, as well as personal items.

The victim did not suffer serious injuries in the attack, said the force.

Insp Steven Crowe, from the Dudley priority crime team, said: "This was a callous robbery of an elderly man simply going about his day.

"We are absolutely committed to making Stourbridge the safest place possible for residents and visitors, and ultimately this investigation has seen a violent offender rightfully sent to prison."
