Three homes have been destroyed after a fire that started in a terraced house.

Seven crews were called to Geffrey Close in East Hanningfield near Chelmsford at 14:30 BST.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was injured.

"It was already well developed when we arrived, so we acted quickly to stop it spreading further along the terrace," said incident commander Ben Stapleton.

"Residents affected by the fire are being supported by the British Red Cross and temporary housing is being arranged by the local authority."

An investigation will take place to establish the cause of the fire.

Pictures show the roofs of the modern homes almost totally destroyed.
