A man has been arrested after a woman was raped in a park in the early hours of the morning.

The woman was attacked in People's Park in Banbury, Oxfordshire, between 02:30 and 03:30 BST, Thames Valley Police said.

Earlier she met a man at a venue in the town centre before they left and he took her to the park where the rape took place, a police spokesperson said.

Officers have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of rape and he remains in custody. The woman, who is in her late teens, is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Det Sgt Christopher Bennett said: "We are carrying out a thorough investigation following this concerning incident."

He asked for anyone who may have seen anything, or has CCTV, to come forward.

There remains an increased police presence in the area.
