Hospital awaiting rebuild marks 60th birthday

A hospital that is set to be rebuilt in the next decade has been marking its 60th anniversary by releasing photos from its archive.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, was officially opened on 27 April 1965 by Princess Alexandra, Lady Ogilvy.

It has since cared for generations of families, but in more recent times the site has been plagued by problems with its ageing buildings and equipment. It is due for a rebuild between 2032 and 2034.

Thom Lafferty, the hospital's chief executive, said: "As we celebrate 60 years of the Princess Alexandra Hospital, we are incredibly proud of our history and, most importantly, our people."
