A man has been rescued after getting into difficulty in the water off Bournemouth Pier.

An RNLI lifeboat crew from Poole, Dorset, was sent to the west side of the pier after a member of the public called 999 on Saturday at about 21:30 BST.

They were able to throw a line after spotting him close to the pier and pulled him onboard the lifeboat.

The RNLI said the crew wrapped up the man, aged in his 30s, as he was "extremely cold" and took him to a waiting ambulance at the lifeboat station.

Dave Riley, helm on the Poole lifeboat, said: "We're thankful to the bystander who called 999 and alerted the coastguard, any delay could have resulted in a very different outcome."
