Mill House Community Centre had no bookings during the 2022-23 financial year

A Nottinghamshire community centre that went a whole year without any events or bookings is facing demolition.

Ashfield District Council said running Mill House Community Centre in Mill Close, Huthwaite became unsustainable after the Covid pandemic.

The authority said it did not provide any income and had a five-year estimated maintenance fee of £36,000.

An application to knock the building down and replace it with two council homes will go before the council’s planning committee next week.

The decision to close the community centre – along with the underused Brierley House in Sutton – was described as a “no-brainer” by councillors in 2023.

Throughout the entire 2022-23 financial year, the centre had no events or bookings after reopening following the pandemic.

Five letters of objection have been sent to the council, including complaints over parking.

Similar plans to demolish Brierley House and replace it with two council bungalows were approved in April, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
