Police are appealing for witnesses after receiving reports of a youth running around a Tesco store in Worcestershire while carrying a possible weapon.

West Mercia Police said the incident was reported to have happened at the store in Stourport at about 16:30 BST on Friday.

The force said the male, who was described as being aged 16 or 17, was with two others and the groups was "chasing each other with a metal instrument".

Insp Lisa Hornberger said: "We would like to reassure the public that, working with the store, it has been confirmed to us that this is believed to be a short pole of some description and not a machete type instrument which has been rumoured on social media."

The force said one of the males involved was described as being white, of a slim build with brown hair and wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a bright orange top.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact the force.
