A dead cat, found hanging from a fence in a car park, could have been there for weeks.

The RSPCA has issued an appeal for information following the discovery by a member of the public.

The animal was spotted last Thursday on Harden Road in Walsall.

Rachel Ward from the animal welfare charity said the cat had been dead for some time and started to decompose.

Ms Ward said she didn't know if the cat was already dead and then hung there, or had been the victim of a deliberate act of cruelty.

“I removed the cat and took it to a vet for an examination and they estimate the cat could have been dead for several weeks or even months," she said.

"The cat didn't have a microchip but was wearing a pink collar and she seems like a younger cat from the teeth.”

The animal rescue officer said the death was suspicious and the RSPCA wanted to speak to anyone who may have seen anything or knows to whom the cat belonged.
