A care home has celebrated its first birthday with a visit from two South American squirrel monkeys.

Antonio, 11, and his three-year-old son, Sharky, climbed onto the shoulders and heads of residents at Jubilee House in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

The ribbon was also cut at a new greenhouse allowing residents to plant their own flowers and vegetables to maintain throughout the year.

The monkeys were part of a group of nine that reside in Heythrop Zoological Gardens in Oxfordshire, care home provider Berkley Care Group said.

They were known for "their impressive vocal range of over 50 sounds".

Thursday's event at the £9m home, which includes a cinema room and spa, featured afternoon tea and a performance from a guest singer.

The ribbon was cut by a married couple who became the first residents at Jubilee House a year ago.

A presentation also took place of a cake modelled on the home's gardens, with a greenhouse made of icing on the top.

Jubilee House general manager Philippa Cook said: "The past year has been an incredible journey, filled with many challenges and many great rewards.

"It was truly heartwarming to see the laughter and excitement brought by our furry guests."
