The killers of a "doting dad" who was violently attacked in a Middlesbrough house have been jailed for life.

Carlos Boyce, 36, was found dead, and another 36-year-old man was seriously injured at the property on Homerton Road on 11 November 2022.

Lee Hogg, 38, and Terry Dalton, 53, were found guilty of murder and grievous bodily harm after a trial at Teesside Crown Court.

Hogg, of Lindisfarne Road, Ormesby, was must serve a minimum term of 21 years and Dalton, of Ellerbeck Way, also Ormesby, a minimum term of 20 years.

Hogg was sentenced to six years for grievous bodily harm with intent, which will run concurrently. Dalton received a five year sentence, also to run concurrently, for the same offence.

The court heard how Mr Boyce had been subject to 96 injuries from bodily force and weapons before his death, while the other victim was left unconscious and requiring hospital treatment.

Mr Boyce was described as a "loving" man who would be "greatly missed" by his family.

'Jusice has been done'

Mr Boyce's young son said he had lost "the best man in the world".

"Carlos was a loving and doting dad, son, brother, uncle, cousin, partner and friend to many," the family said in a joint statement.

His mother, Susan added that he had been "her sunshine" and "the family will never be the same again without him".

After sentencing, Temporary Det Supt Chris Motson of Cleveland Police said he hoped the family would "take solace that these violent individuals will spend a lengthy period behind bars".

He said: “We’ll never know precisely what happened inside that address on that day, but the two men were clearly subjected to an extremely violent assault which tragically resulted in Carlos losing his life.

“Hogg and Dalton inflicted multiple injuries in a sustained and violent attack and then did nothing to seek help for the victims, despite knowing the severity of their attack."
