One of Bradford city centre's most prominent office buildings is set to be converted into flats.

US-based developer ARC PFBFDUK001 LLC will convert 1 Godwin Street, currently the Vanquis Banking Group's headquarters, into 103 apartments.

When it was completed in 2010 as part of the £45m Southgate development, the office space was seen as a vital part of the regeneration of central Bradford.

The building will be divided into one, two and three-bedroom flats and two ground-floor commercial units.

Bradford Council planners confirmed the internal plans for 1 Godwin Street met the criteria for permitted development and could go ahead without needing council permission.

It is the most recent major new-build office development in the city centre aside from One City Park which was completed in 2023, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The developers will require planning permission from the council for external works to the building, including new windows for many of the apartment units.

Vanquis is set to move into a neighbouring office space, previously home to PwC before the company's move to One City Park.
