A new ferry is due to arrive in Alderney this weekend.

The twin-hulled boat, the Dart Fisher, is a former crew transfer vessel which has been fitted and serviced in Great Yarmouth for Alderney Ferry Services (AFS).

Nigel Vooght, chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee (PFC), said the vessel has 12 seats and would help connectivity between Alderney and Guernsey.

AFS said the harbour authority was working with it to address challenges such as mooring and sailing schedules.

Vooght said: “With all the hard work and determination involved in bringing a larger vessel to Alderney, AFS has demonstrated a commendable enthusiasm for maintaining connectivity between the islands."

The existing subsidised service, which sees both Causeway Explorer and Sorcerer II undertaking the Alderney-Guernsey rotations, has completed almost all of the 250 journeys agreed with the PFC earlier this year.

By the end of August, AFS has carried more than 4,000 passengers this year.
