Girl, 6, who died in house fire named

A girl who died in a house fire has been named locally as six-year-old Chamiah Brindley.

Police were called to a house in Bedale Drive, Leicester, by the fire service at about 04:08 BST on Tuesday.

Leicestershire Police said a person, understood by BBC News to be Chamiah, died at the scene.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of arson following the blaze, but has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

The force is yet to confirm the identity of the victim.

On Tuesday evening, detectives said they were "keeping an open mind" and working with the fire service to establish what happened.

Other people who were inside the house received hospital treatment as a precaution, police said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Det Insp Michael Chandler said: "This is an extremely tragic incident in which a person has sadly lost their life.

"Our investigation is at a very early stage, and we are keeping an open mind as to what caused the fire.

"Specially-trained officers are also continuing to provide full support to the family of the deceased."

The fire service said it was called to the scene at 04:02, and about 25 firefighters from four stations responded.
