Plans for new town centre police station submitted

The site of a former car dealership in Huddersfield could be transformed into a new police station, if plans are approved.
The derelict and boarded-up site on Broadway would be demolished and replaced with a two-storey building, according to a proposal submitted to Kirklees Council by West Yorkshire Police.
The existing police station, on Castlegate, would remain in full use while the new premises were constructed, a report to be seen by councillors stated.
If the plans were approved, the new building was expected to be completed and ready for use in 2026, it added.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the West Yorkshire force had been looking for a town centre site for a new police station for about 15 years.
If approved, the building would be constructed on the site of the former Nissan/Fiat dealership site by the town's ring road.
Between 50 and 100 members of staff were expected to be accommodated at the site, the plans said.
It is understood the new police station would include a help desk for members of the public, but no cells.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Concept drawings for the proposed new police station for Huddersfield are now available to view online as work on the project gathers pace.
"Police have also written to residents near the site of the proposed new police station for Huddersfield to inform them that design works for the building have begun."
A target date for the council to decide on the plans was set for 7 November.
