A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 19-year-old man was found dead at a property.
Essex Police said it received a number of calls with concern for a man's welfare at an address in Norman Crescent in Brentwood on Sunday evening.
The force said officers and the ambulance service responded swiftly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman in her 50s, from Brentwood, remained in custody for questioning.
Det Insp James Holmes said the case was "extremely sensitive" and "distressing".
"We are supporting the distraught family of a teenage man who has lost his life in tragic circumstances and our first thoughts are with them as we work to understand what happened."
He urged the public not to speculate over the circumstances.
"We remain at the scene in Brentwood. This is an isolated incident, confined to a single address, with no threat to the wider community."
