Bid to repair storm-battered fisherman's hut
- Published
The owner of a fisherman's hut that had its roof ripped off during a storm has submitted plans for repair work.
Seigneur of Samares Vincent Obbard has put in plans, external to Jersey's government to reconstruct the roof of the building known as La Pointe in Les Minquiers, Grouville.
The application said the roof was blown into the sea by strong winds during Storm Ciaran in November, which brought gusts of 102mph (164km/h) to the island.
It said the owner wanted to replace the rafters, plywood, roof felt, battens and slates.
The applicant said the whole roof was lifted off in one piece and carried away into the sea by the storm, with all that was left of the original masonry being the four surrounding walls and a central dividing wall.
A statement included in the application said the owner wanted to replace the old slates, which were grey asbestos, with genuine slates.
It said using genuine slates instead of asbestos would "enhance" the look of the property.
The applicant was also looking to rebuild the hut's chimney stack, the statement added.
