Performing art students had "the best day ever" when they worked with actor David Tennant on the ITV drama The Hack.

More than 50 pupils from Best Theatre Arts in St Albans performed in the show, which is based on the hacking at the Sunday tabloid The News of the World.

The school's director, Lisa Schulberg, said: "I'm still getting emails from parents saying it was the most incredible opportunity.

"They still talk about it as one of the best days ever."

None of the performers were aware they would be working with the Doctor Who actor while filming took place at Berkhamsted school.

Ms Schulberg said: "He chatted with them, came and took photos with them, you know, he was very gracious on set.

"I mean, obviously a few of them were big fans... There's a bit of a Doctor Who thing for them."

Verity, 15, said the experience gave her insight into the difference between stage and screen work.

She added: "In the days running up to filming, I joked that he might be there - because he is in everything - but it was a real surprise to see him actually there.

"He was really nice and funny, and he's obviously a really talented actor.

"I am very grateful for the opportunities we get through Best. It was a really great day."

According to Hertfordshire Film Office, the seven-part series was shot in 2024 at locations across the county, including Berkhamsted, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and St Albans.
