Police in Guernsey have warned against "vigilante justice" after some Facebook users reacted strongly to reports of a half-naked man hiding in the bushes of a local park.

The comments came on the Police's Facebook post, external about reports of a man spotted naked from the waist down in Saumarez Park, Castel.

A minority of the comments appeared to suggest the public might take action themselves, with one post suggesting, "if the parents find him the police won't".

A force spokesperson said: "Guernsey Police does not condone any form of 'vigilante justice' and people that seek to carry it out could find themselves in front of the courts.

"The Police are here to uphold the law and to ensure offenders are fairly brought to justice.

"We would encourage anyone with suspicions or information about an offence taking place to contact us."

Police said officers were "actively investigating" the incident and therefore the force "cannot comment further at this time".
