Suspicious object found in Portadown 'a hoax'

A suspicious object found in Portadown which sparked a security alert has been declared a hoax by police.

Police received a report relating to the object in the Upper Church Lane area shortly after 20:45 BST on Tuesday.

Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene and upon examination declared the object a hoax.

People had to leave the homes during the operation with road closures also in place, these has since been lifted.

Insp Connolly said: “We understand the disruption this incident caused, to road users and the public, and I want to thank everyone impacted for their patience and co-operation during this time."

Police have launched an investigation and have appealed for information.
