A small "deliberate" fire in a outbuilding at a school has been put out.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Wixams Academy, in Wixams, a new town close to Bedford, at about 20:46 BST on Saturday.

One crew from Kempston attended after people reported seeing flames and had experienced a strong smell in the area.

"The cause of the fire was deliberate", the force confirmed.

The school opened in September 2017 and on Friday, celebrated the official opening of its new sports hall and teaching block.
