Train services are returning to normal after a broken rail caused major disruption.

Thameslink apologised after damaged track was discovered on Sunday near Hatfield in Hertfordshire, affecting routes on Great Northern and Thameslink in Hertfordshire, London, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

All lines were closed at Hatfield from 22:00 BST on Monday until 05:00 for urgent repair work.

Lines have since reopened and National Rail said residual delays were expected to clear by the morning rush hour.

Thameslink said trains running before 07:00 were subject to cancellation, revision, or a delay by up to 30 minutes.
