Arrest as pedestrian critically hurt in hit-and-run

A driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Leicester.
Police said a man in his 50s suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a white Range Rover near the Orchard Street junction of Belgrave Gate at about 03:40 BST on Sunday.
The city-bound vehicle failed to stop at the scene, the force said.
A 35-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.
Other drivers sought
Leicestershire Police said the pedestrian remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Det Con Emma Mitchell said: “Although this incident occurred in the early hours of the morning we know there were people in the area of Belgrave Gate, close to Burleys Flyover, who may have saw the incident or the pedestrian or car before the collision.
"We are particularly looking to trace the drivers of two cars we believe were directly behind the Range Rover just before the incident occurred.
“We are also keen to access any dash cam footage or CCTV.
"Given the time the collision occurred there is likely to have been taxis travelling to and from the city who may have captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
