Radiology equipment at Uist and Barra Hospital on Benbecula has been upgraded with £300,000 of support from the Scottish government.

NHS Western Isles said the equipment had "many advanced features" which would improve radiation safety and allow patients to view images on the X-ray machine.

The ceiling of the radiology department's treatment room has also been replaced. The previous equipment was more than 12 years old.

The health board has thanked patients and staff for patience during disruption to the service when the revamp was taking place.
