Lots of people sent in pictures of the aurora which could be seen in some places above Scotland over the weekend. Ali Penman took this photo at Lassintulloch in Kinloch Rannoch. "Despite the big bright moon, for five minutes at 18:30, the sky danced and exploded with colour," they said.

"Despite the bright moon, there was a brief appearnce by the aurora borealis over the all-day frost in the Trossachs on Saturday evening," said Crispin Hoult, who took this photograph.

This autumn scene was captured by Rachel Fraser, who was visiting the Hermitage in Dunkeld.

Graham Christie snapped this picture of Canada geese flying in formation over Luss, a behaviour which scientists believe helps the birds conserve energy by reducing wind resistance.

Elaine Scott said she came across this postbox topper when she returned to her hometown of Hawick for the weekend. "Obviously Hawick High Street marking 150 years of Hawick RFC," she said.

Marcus Tyler sent in this picture he took from Kinnoull hill in Perth.

This view over West Loch, Argyll and Bute, was captured by Jim Friel who was out walking his dog having recently moved to the area. "I'll never get unpacked at this rate," he said.

Several people sent in pictures of lenticular clouds, including David McCulloch, who took this picture at Flanders Moss near Stirling. "They are often likened to UFOs, and can form on the leeward side of mountains in the right conditions," he said.

Amanda Gilbertson took this picture of her six-year-old dog Angus at Inchyra park in Grangemouth.

This photograph showing a "stormy weekend" in Pennan, was taken by Lesley Meldrum.

The turf house at Glencoe Visitor Centre was photographed by Alastair Nunn.

Ray Thomson said: "Saw this young otter having a "flat fish supper" on the Isle of Arran this week."

This view of the Glen Rosa ferry, which is under construction at the Ferguson Marine Shipyard in Port Glasgow, was sent in by Luther Ross.

Dave Lynch said: "Short-eared owls are hunting around the Donmouth Nature Reserve in Aberdeen at the moment. They’ve been blown in by Storm Babet."

It was clear from the photographs sent in this week that temperatures are beginning to drop around Scotland. Frost could be seen on the ground in this picture of a Highland cow in Argyll and Bute, which was taken by David Robertson. "It was a beautiful day to be in the hills and the Highland cow was a very willing model," he said.

It certainly looked cold from this picture taken in the Fannichs mountains near Ullapool, but Fred Craib - a member of the Wyvis Hillwalking Club - described it as a "stunning day out in the sunshine".

Ben Nevis looked "quite wintery", according to Olivia MacRae who took this picture of the Charles Inglis Clark Hut below the mountain's north face.

Ewen Pryde was driving on the A9 after his daughter's gymnastics competition in Alness and said he had to stop to capture this moment the road was lit up by the moon.

John Scott heard the "trilling" calls of a flock of waxwings eating berries from a rowan tree at Montgomery Street Park Edinburgh, and snapped this picture.

This picture was sent in by Michelle Reddy who took it while out on a walk near Queen's Park in Glasgow. "I came across this beautiful row of colourful Victorian homes in Blairhall Avenue," she said.

Andy Edgar snapped this photograph of a view from Milton Of Leys, Inverness, over to Beauly Firth and the distant hills.

As it gets closer to Christmas more places are getting their decorations up, as can be seen in this photograph of the Christmas lights at George Square, Glasgow, which was submitted by John Rowan.

Boyd Wild said: "West Linton looking particularly festive after an overnight snowfall."

The Granite City is lit up in this picture taken by Steven Neish which shows Aberdeen's Christmas village.
