Gardaí (Irish police) are investigating after the bodies of a girl and a man were found at a house in Dublin on Saturday.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ is reporting that police believe they are father and daughter, who may be as young as six years old.

Emergency services were called to the Heathfield housing estate in Finglas shortly before 20:00 local time (20:00 BST).

The bodies have been removed from the scene and post-mortem examinations will now be carried out.

Finglas councillor Keith Connolly told BBC News NI he did not know the circumstances of the deaths but said: "For anyone to lose their life is shocking."

The Fianna Fáil representative added it was "an awful tragedy to happen" and that people in the area have been stunned by the news.

"My condolences are with the rest of the family," Connolly said.
