Man admits having a blade in seaside town brawl

A man has admitted carrying a bladed weapon and another has been charged with assault following a large group brawl.

Essex Police said a number of arrests were made in connection with a fight in Southchurch Road, Southend at 01:40 BST on 6 October.

A 28-year-old man admitted possession of a blade or pointed article and affray and will be sentenced on 11 November at Basildon Magistrates' Court.

A 19-year-old man faces an assault charge, breaching an electronic monitoring tag, and five breaches of a previously-issued community protection notice. He is expected to appear before Southend magistrates on Monday.

A second man, aged 18, arrested in relation to the incident has been released, the force said.

Det Ch Insp Rachel Jeffery said: "Our investigations into these contained incidents in Southend continue, with a number of really targeted enquiries being progressed.

"Where the evidence allows us, we are working determinedly to put those we believe to be involved in those incidents before the court.

"This work won’t stop until we identify and charge everyone we believe to be involved and put them before the courts."
