Upgrades to pedestrian crossings announced

Work is set to begin soon on upgrading pedestrian crossings in Wiltshire.
The council is making improvements to two crossings in Melksham during August and September, with both schemes expected to take about three weeks to finish.
The first crossing is on the A3102 Lowbourne, near its junction with Ruskin Avenue, and the second is further south of the junction near the library.
Wiltshire Council cabinet member for highways, Nick Holder said: "It’s essential that we upgrade and refurbish pedestrian crossings to ensure that residents can continue to live in well-connected and safe communities."
He added: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works, but we look forward to the completed scheme providing increased safety for all road users.
“To minimise disruption while these works are carried out, we will be working on each crossing in turn.”
Work on the Lowbourne crossing is set to begin on 12 August, with the start date for the one near the library 2 September.
