Deputy calls for separate election days

Deputy Montford Tadier said splitting dates would make it easier for voters to focus on each race

A Jersey politician has proposed election days for senators should be separate from deputies and constables.
Deputy Montford Tadier suggested the vote for senators should happen a month before the election for deputies and constables.
In March, politicians voted to bring back senators after the States Assembly voted in 2021 to remove the role to simplify the electoral system.
At the moment the draft amendment law said senators would be voted for on the same day as constables and deputies on 7 June next year.
Tadier said splitting the dates would make it easier for voters to focus on each race, and help candidates decide which role to run for.
He added voting for senators first would give islanders more choice and make the process easier to follow.
The States will debate the idea next month.
