An art gallery is to hold a major exhibition by artist David Remfry MBE.

Beverley Art Gallery in East Yorkshire will host a retrospective of the 82-year-old's work in spring 2025.

Remfry studied at Hull College of Art in the early 1960s and has held more than 50 shows of his work around the world.

He is a member of the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) and is known for his large watercolour works, many depicting New York, where he lived for more than 20 years.

According to the RA, external, he was awarded an MBE in 2001 "for services to British Art in America".

As part of the preparation for the exhibition, the gallery's curator, Hannah Willetts, will spend time with the artist at his studio in London and have access to his archive.

The gallery, based in the town's Treasure House building, is currently closed for a refurbishment.

It is due to reopen at the end of 2024.

Niall Adams, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's museums and archives manager, said: “There are some extraordinary artworks to share with our visitors in the exhibition.

"We can’t wait to reopen the gallery this winter and start our new exhibition programme."
