Appeal after pedestrian hit by car in city centre

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a car in York city centre.

North Yorkshire Police said the "serious" incident happened on Gillygate at about 05:30 GMT on Monday and involved a white Ford KA.

The pedestrian is in a stable condition, officers said, while the driver of the vehicle was uninjured and is helping with the investigation.

Gillygate remained closed until 10:30. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has footage is urged to contact police.
