A culvert which crosses under the bypass needs to be repaired

A stretch of a major route in Dorset will be closed for a full weekend for repairs to a large pipe running under the road.

The Mude Culvert - a covered channel - crossing under the A35 Christchurch Bypass needs re-waterproofing and to have a crack fixed.

The work will close the bypass both ways between the Purewell Cross-Stony Lane Roundabout and the Somerford Roundabout.

The road is set to close at 19:30 GMT on 14 March and reopen on 17 March at 06:00.

Traffic on the A35 Christchurch Bypass will be diverted via the B3059 Purewell Cross Road and the B3059 Somerford Road, Salisbury Road traffic will be sent via the B3347 Stony Lane and Martins Hill Lane.

BCP Council said as the work was weather dependent, two further weekends, 21-24 and 28-31 March, had been earmarked as back-up dates.
