Supermarket revives plan to open new store in town

A supermarket has announced it is looking to open a new store in a town, nine years after its plans were originally approved.
Sainsbury's wants to build a shop and petrol station on the former Twyford Bathrooms site in Alsager.
Amended plans for the "long-awaited" scheme would be submitted to Cheshire East Council, the retailer said.
At least 100 jobs were set to be created, and the town's existing Sainsbury's Local would remain open, it added.
The medium-sized 25,000 sq ft (2300 sq m) supermarket on Lawton Road would include an Argos store.
The original plans for the development were approved in 2015, the retailer said.
Proposed changes to the scheme included a 249 space car park with 15 disabled spaces and four "ultra-rapid" EV charging bays, as well as solar panels on the roof of the shop.
