Child hit by car on pavement breaks both legs

Police said the 10-year-old boy was hit by a white Audi when it mounted the kerb near the junction of Pershore Road and Sir Harry's Road in Birmingham on Sunday evening

A 10-year-old boy is in hospital with two broken legs after being hit by a car that mounted a pavement in Birmingham.

The child was riding an e-scooter when he was struck by a white Audi convertible at the junction of Sir Harry's Road and Pershore Road just after 18:00 BST on Sunday, police said.

Officers added the driver took the boy to hospital, then left before providing contact details.

The West Midlands force said the child needed surgery and faced "months of rehabilitation".

It has spoken to nearby residents and shopkeepers and is examining CCTV footage but officers are also keen to hear from witnesses or people with dashcam footage.
