The Isle of Man's A18 Mountain Road has been closed due to “worsening” road conditions caused by snowfall, police have said.

The road, which is the main route between the capital Douglas and the north of the island, has been closed between Creg ny Baa and Ramsey.

Ronaldsway Met Office had earlier warned of the possibility of sleet and snow on the hills.

The Isle of Man Constabulary said the road had recently been gritted by the infrastructure department and the area would continue to be monitored.

Police also warned conditions on the Sloc Road had deteriorated but said the road was passable with care.

A yellow weather warning for hill snow and ice remains in place until 10:00 GMT on Saturday.
