A not-for-profit healthcare services company has taken over an NHS urgent treatment centre.

DHU Healthcare said it would work closely with the Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and local health partners to ensure the ongoing delivery of safe, effective and responsive urgent care at the Corby Urgent Treatment Centre (CUTC).

The company already provides Northamptonshire's GP out-of-hours service as well as urgent treatment centres across the Midlands.

Eileen Doyle, the chief delivery officer at Northamptonshire ICB, said: "We are delighted to welcome DHU to Corby and look forward to working with them to improve urgent care services in the surrounding area."

The CUTC opened in 2012, the centre provides treatment for minor injuries and illnesses that are urgent but not life-threatening.

DHU Healthcare said the centre would continue to operate seven days a week and would support patients who walk in or were referred by the NHS or their GP for urgent care needs.

Paul Tilson, the chief operating officer at DHU Healthcare, said: "We're delighted to have the opportunity to deliver quality, compassionate care to the people and communities of Corby.

"Our focus is on working with local people, staff, and partners ensure we provide the right service for everyone.

"We've spent time listening to the existing team at the centre to understand their experience and insight into the community they serve. That local knowledge is invaluable in helping us build on what already works well and identify where we can make further improvements.

"At DHU, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We're proud to work collaboratively with our people and partners to deliver services that make our patients feel cared for, valued and supported."
